It is a byproduct of the beef industry. (It has NEVER been made from cats.)<\/p>\n<p>Synthetic strings are inorganic and man-made. They include:<\/p>\n<p>A: Polyurethane (PU) monofilaments.<\/p>\n<p>Pros and cons of PU &#8212;<\/p>\n<p>1. PRO &#8211; Elastic (playable)<br \/>\n2. PRO &#8211; Comfortable<br \/>\n3. PRO &#8211; Powerful<br \/>\n4. CON &#8211; Not very durable<\/p>\n<p>B: Polyamides.<\/p>\n<p>Pros and cons of polyamides &#8212;<\/p>\n<p>1. PRO &#8211; Holds tension fairly well<br \/>\n2. PRO &#8211; Powerful<br \/>\n3. PRO &#8211; Controllable<br \/>\n4. Durability is better than PU.<\/p>\n<p>C: Polyester and Co-polyester<\/p>\n<p>Pros and cons of polyesters\/co-polyesters &#8212;<\/p>\n<p>1. PRO &#8211; Durable<br \/>\n2. PRO &#8211; Controllable<br \/>\n3. PRO &#8211; Accentuates existing topspin<br \/>\n4. CON &#8211; Not elastic (not playable or comfortable)<br \/>\n5. CON &#8211; Does not hold tension<\/p>\n<p>Within these families, strings can be constructed in ways that offer specific benefits.
